Joey Loperfido, a product of Haddonfield Memorial High School in Haddonfield, New Jersey, first showcased his baseball prowess during his collegiate years at Duke University. In 2019, he further honed his skills with the Cotuit Kettleers of the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League, solidifying his place among top prospects.

His talent didn’t go unnoticed, as evidenced by the Houston Astros selecting him in the seventh round of the 2021 MLB draft. Loperfido wasted no time, making his professional debut that same year with the Fayetteville Woodpeckers. He continued to impress in 2022, splitting his time between Fayetteville and the Asheville Tourists.

In the 2023 season, Joey Loperfido began with Asheville Tourists, but his outstanding performance led to a swift promotion to the Corpus Christi Hooks after only eight games.

Now, on April 30, 2024, Joey Loperfido, a left-handed hitting outfielder and first baseman was selected to the roster and promoted to Major League Baseball for the first time. He marks the 47th Duke player to debut in MLB history and the second this season.

Joey Loperfido wasted no time making his mark in the big leagues. In his MLB debut against the Cleveland Guardians, he delivered a clutch go-ahead, two-run single in the bottom of the fourth inning, propelling the Houston Astros to a 5-3 lead. Despite a nail-biting extra-inning showdown, the Astros emerged triumphant with a 10-9 victory, showcasing Loperfido’s immediate impact on the team’s success.
